Invisalign® Treatment Process

October 08, 2011 @ 09:55 AM — by Lisbeth Bradley DDS

If you have crooked teeth, you know just what a hassle that can be. You may find yourself feeling quite self-conscious around others, even the people you have known for years. In addition to the aesthetic problems, however, there are other issues to deal with. For instance, crooked teeth can lead to tooth grinding at night and hence a number of different dental problems linked to tooth grinding. These reasons are why patients come to our Nashville area cosmetic dentistry practice to get the treatment that they need.

Straightening Your Teeth

There are plenty of options out there for straightening your teeth. In the past, the only solution was to get braces, with those brackets and wires and many find invasive and troublesome. Thankfully another option has arisen in recent years, and that option is Invisalign®. The Invisalign® teeth straightening system has grown in popularity over the years with both adult and teens.

About Invisalign®

Invisalign® demonstrates our practice’s commitment to using the latest techniques and dental care technology. The Invisalign® system uses a series of clear plastic trays rather than brackets and wires to straighten the teeth. These trays are worn at all times save for when eating, drinking, or cleaning the teeth. Over a series of months, the trays will shift your teeth into proper position.

How Invisalign® Works

Invisalign® uses digital imaging technology to device the best treatment plan for your needs. The trays are customized to your mouth, with the first tray you receive initiating the alignment process. Each subsequent tray is given to a patient every two weeks, and each new tray continues the gradual alignment process. These trays can be removed as needed (say for work functions, sports, and special occasions like prom), though it’s recommended that patients leave them in as much as possible.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process

The first step in the treatment process is the consultation you’ll have with Nashville and Brentwood cosmetic dentists Dr. Lis Bradley and Dr. Lauren Wilburn. They’ll assess your dental health and determine if Invisalign® is the right option for your needs. If it’s determine that you are a good candidate for Invisalign®, then a 3D digital image of your teeth will be taken so that a treatment plan can be developed.

Every two weeks, you will receive new Invisalign® aligners, and you’ll be asked to come into the office periodically so that we can monitor your progress. Some special treatments may be required for adjusting the size and shape of your teeth as the treatment progresses, but generally this is what the treatment process is like. You’ll wear Invisalign® aligners as long as you’d wear traditional braces, though no one will notice that they’re in place.

Alternatives to Invisalign®

Since not everyone qualifies for Invisalign®, there are many other general dental care and cosmetic dental care treatments out there to consider. One of these includes Nashville porcelain veneers, which are great for primarily cosmetic misalignments and cases of unevenness. These options can be discussed in more detail during your consultation at the office.
